Pottery Classes & Workshops!
I have been a ceramic artist and run a successful pottery studio for 22 years. During this time I have been selling my work to galleries and museum shops and at craft fairs as well as teaching pottery classes in my studio. Clay is a wonderful medium. It’s immediately responsive to touch and is very gratifying to work with. Small classes mean a lot of individual attention and the hands-on learning is satisfying. The classes are a relaxing and rewarding experience. All workshops can be geared for adults or children over the age of 5. Family groups work well and are welcomed. My suggestion for beginners, especially children, is to do both hand-building and throwing as opposed to throwing alone. Hand-building teaches you how the clay responds and is really helpful when approaching throwing. Take a workshop or join an ongoing class. You’ll be glad you did!

Classes
Ongoing classes are available for adults and children at all levels in 5 and 8 week sessions. Class size is generally between 2-6 students. These classes include throwing on the wheel, hand building, and glazing and decoration.

Workshops
All workshops include:

  • Instruction and hands-on work with clay
  • After the workshop, when your pieces have dried, I will bisque and clear glaze them and ship them to you.

Beginner 3 day workshop--hand-building and throwing on the wheel.
This workshop teaches the fundamentals of working with clay. We will start with pinch pots and centering clay on the wheel. Then we will continue on with coil and slab techniques and throwing on the wheel. On the first two days we will focus on making pieces both on the wheel and hand-building, and on the third day we will trim the pots and decorate them with slips and underglazes. Each day will be a 3 hour class. This can easily be expanded to a 4 or 5 day workshop.

Beginning Pottery
2 day hand-building workshop This workshop will teach all the basic hand-building techniques. We will begin with pinch pots and continue with coil pots and slab pieces. The class can go either in the functional direction or more towards sculptural work depending on the individuals. I like to do both! We will decorate the pieces with underglazes and colored slips. Each day will be a 2 hour class. This can easily be expanded into a 3 day workshop.

individual--$200 2 students--$150 each 3-4 students--$120 each Prices include 4 hours of instruction plus all tools, materials, firing and packing and shipping charges.

Intermediate/advanced 3 day workshop
throwing on the wheel This workshop is designed for students who already have some throwing experience and are looking to hone and expand their skills. Each student will receive individual attention while throwing to help with centering and throwing issues. We will also work on some more advanced forms (covered jars, pitchers, teapots etc.) depending on the skill level of the group. In addition, we will discuss approaches to design and decoration. We will throw for 2 days and trim and decorate on the third day. Each day will be a 3 hour class. This can easily be expanded to a 4 or 5 day workshop.
